Project SMART (San Marcos Adolescent Research sTudy) is an ongoing mixed-method study of early adolescents living in Central Texas. The survey component asks adolescents about the positive aspects of their lives, such as emotional and cultural support by families, schools, and peers, as well as negative aspects, such as experiences of discrimination. The survey also asks adolescents about their thoughts about themselves and other groups of people, as well as their psychological health, risky behaviors, and academic outcomes. In the optional, follow-up parent/guardian-adolescent interviews, parents/guardians and adolescents are asked about their beliefs about social status, race/ethnicity, as well as beliefs about success and how individuals may achieve or fail to achieve success.
